Is modern styled cyberpunk still cyberpunk?

I've been creating a comic as of late and i'm heavily influenced by cyberpunk, but i'm not a fan of the 80's aesthetic of it, so my work omits that completely. I was wondering what your opinion is on this. It seems that there are a lot of hardliners who view cyberpunk as a set in stone sort of thing, and others that are more like me.
